EN: Skiing with Children in Flims Laax Falera (Switzerland)
It has taken a surprisingly long time, but now I finally got to discover the lift system Flims Laax Falera (Graubünden, Switzerland). The reason for it being so popular is probably primarily its size - here you can easily ski around during a whole day without having to in the same slope twice.
I certainly will not claim that we had enough time to see everything, but our sons now have a good speed, so we managed to complete tour from Grauberg to Vorab and then further to Crap Masegn and Crap Sogn Gion. However, we skipped the red slopes down from the highest peak - Vorab Gletscher (3 018 m) – although our children would not have any problems there. True, we were here on one of the sunniest ski days in Switzerland this year, but on the way up to La Siala (2 810 m) we experienced a slight mood slump. Our youngest son (9 years old) did not at all like the strong wind nor how the snow was whirling in it.
My major objection to Laax is purely aesthetic. Nearly the whole system is lies above treeline and consequently feels very bare. The compensation for this is, of course, the quality of the snow. During our visit (in the month of March) it was anything but fresh, but still in very condition.
That ski lifts in Switzerland are not as modern as in Austria is something to which we are accustomed by now, but in Laax, I believe I have got a literal déjà-vu. Because the cabin lift which passes through Fourcla is of exactly the same type as the one I remember from trips to Leysin (Vaud) in the early 1980s, is it not? ;)

Our previous ski trips in Switzerland this season have gone to Klosters-Davos and Hoch-Ybrig. Last winter we were in Arosa, Flumserberg, Meiringen-Hasliberg and Klewenalp.
