EN: By Train from Zurich to Skiing in Flumserberg
At the end of March, we had what was to be our last day of skiing this season, so I am glad that it took place in my favorite ski resort here in Switzerland: Flumserberg (St. Gallen). And how wonderfully different our visit there was this time. As recently as a year ago, we spent most of our time on the slopes motivating above all our youngest son not to give up. Now, at the age of nine, he happily accepted new challenges, including for example the steep last part of the red slope down to the lift station Arve.
We enjoyed bright sunshine throughout the whole day, which underlined the advantage of large ski areas, such as Flumserberg. Although, on the red pistes from Prodkamm, the snow was very heavy already before lunch, we still had perfect conditions on the shady side, down from Maschgenkamm. And while my family took an extra afternoon break, I this time got at least one attempt at the black slope from the highest point of the precinct (Leist, 2222 m).
Our day trip received some extra "value-added" through the fact that we went by train. During the ski season, the commuter train S2 goes all the way to Unterterzen, from where you conveniently take a cable car up to Tannenboden, one of the Flumserberg valley stations. And on the tram back home from Bahnhof Enge, with skis on our shoulders and the boots still on our feet, we certainly felt very "Swiss".
Now, that I, originally a Southern Swede, did not grow up near the Alps was, however, revealed during that same return journey. In the morning, almost everyone in the train had placed their skis on the parcel shelf, so we wondered why we were the only ones to do so also in the evening. The answer soon came in the form of droplets on our heads, when the snow around the bindings began to melt... ;)

Our previous ski trips in Switzerland this year have gone to Klosters-Davos, Hoch-Ybrig and Laax. Last year we were in Arosa, Klewenalp, Meiringen-Hasliberg and Flumserberg.
