EN: Mainau - the Bernadotte Flower Island on Lake Constance
The flower island of Mainau on Lake Constance is owned by the Lennart Bernadotte Foundation and thus has a direct connection to the Swedish royal family. This is obvious to visitors – the entrance fees are indicated not only in Euro, but also in Swedish kronor and there is a restaurant serving Swedish food.
In fairness, it should be mentioned that prices are also quoted in Swiss francs. True, Mainau lies next to the town of Konstanz (Baden-Württemberg) in Germany, but also very close to the Swiss border and only an hour by car from Zurich.
And yes, Mainau is really scenic with its location on the lake and all well-kept flower beds and sculptures. But I would advise all Swedish tourists who look forward to coming here to lower their expectations; think of Mainau in terms of a beautiful botanical garden, but not as one of the world's seven wonders.

The reason for us going to Mainau last week was that Nota Bene - the Nordic Choir of Zurich, where my wife is involved – had a performance in the magnificent baroque church there.
