EN: German Crime Novel Recommendation: "Tod im Aargau" by Ina Haller

Now, I have finally read a crime novel which unfolds here in Switzerland Tod im Aargau ("Death in the canton of Aargau") by Ina Haller. Here we meet Andrina, whose calm life as reader at a publishing house is one day interrupted when one of her acquaintances after the other is murdered. Fortunately, the handsome policeman Mr. Feller comes to her rescue.

What I really liked about this novel is the idyllic picture painted of the small towns in the canton Aargau - people go to work by bike, take long walks or run in the forest and in their spare time they practise gardening or organise barbecues with their friends.

The plot, however, did not seem especially credible to me. The murderer who up to the beginning of the story must have been a systematic person with a great patience, suddenly starts to act unpremeditatedly. And already on page nine do we understand that the protagonist and Mr. Feller are about to usher in a romantic relationship, although he is among the police investigating the case and although Andrina’s friends continue to die around her.

This is a thin book with a simple language so it is perfect for foreigners who want to improve their German.
